I have to say I had great hopes of quaint villages full of character.  I was a bit disappointed that it generally didn\u2019t live up to those expectations.  Although to be fair if you keep to the south west you have a good chance of finding places like that.  The north and east is quite breath taking built up and mostly not in a good way.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dionysusphotography.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/D7K_9964_HDR_small_ls.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dionysusphotography.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/D7K_9964_HDR_small_ls.jpg\" alt=\"The Grand Master&#039;s Palace\" width=\"800\" height=\"528\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-219\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is one of the corridors in the grand master&#8217;s palace.  Lots of suits of armour, to the point where I&#8217;m not sure they know quite what to do with them all!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dionysusphotography.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/D8K_0033_small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dionysusphotography.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/D8K_0033_small.jpg\" alt=\"Naxxar Church\" width=\"596\" height=\"900\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-224\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Many of the churches on Malta, being catholic, are complete bling fests.  This one in Naxxar was really tasteful, I wouldn&#8217;t quite call it understated but it was very beautiful in parts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dionysusphotography.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/D8K_0032-Edit_small_ls.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dionysusphotography.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/D8K_0032-Edit_small_ls.jpg\" alt=\"Naxxar Church Dome\" width=\"800\" height=\"530\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-223\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The same church and a view of the inside of the dome, quite stunning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dionysusphotography.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/D7K_9975_small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dionysusphotography.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/D7K_9975_small.jpg\" alt=\"St. John&#039;s Co-Cathedral\" width=\"596\" height=\"900\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-222\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nOne of many cherubs in St. John&#8217;s cathedral in Valletta<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dionysusphotography.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/D7K_9939_small_ls.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dionysusphotography.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/D7K_9939_small_ls.jpg\" alt=\"Valletta\" width=\"800\" height=\"530\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-221\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rather more my style, even if it is just a weed growing out of a wall.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dionysusphotography.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/D7K_9961_small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dionysusphotography.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/D7K_9961_small.jpg\" alt=\"Statue\" width=\"597\" height=\"900\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-220\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I rather liked this, partly because of the seclusion and sense of peace in the courtyard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unexpectedly I spent a few days in Valletta.
